Portland Police Bureau to conduct back to school missions
September 03, 2003 00:00
Beginning September 4, 2003, the Portland Police Bureau's five police precincts and its Traffic Division will conduct traffic enforcement missions in and around school zones. The purpose of these missions is to increase traffic safety awareness and remind drivers that the safety of children is everyone's concern. During these missions, Portland Police Bureau officers will be strictly and aggressively enforcing the traffic code, and photo radar and the speed wagon will also be deployed. Community members should also be reminded that traffic citations automatically double in school zones.
Officers from the Portland Police Bureau School Police Division have also returned to Portland Public Schools. School Police Officers spend 75% of their time in direct contact with students and work closely with school administrators to create a safe environment for students.
