Crime Stoppers for the Week of October

October 23, 2003 00:00

Portland Police, in cooperation with Crime stoppers, are asking for your help in solving a fatal hit and run where the victim's body was dragged approximately twelve blocks.

On Monday, October 6, 2003, at approximately 9:00 in the evening, 47-year-old Bobby Leon Stine, who was homeless, was with another homeless man on SE Powel Boulevard between SE 9th and 10th Avenues. According to the other homeless man, he and Stine were both intoxicated and were walking about a half block apart when he saw Stine stumble and fall onto Powell Boulevard and then the man heard a "thump". When the man reached the area where Stine had fallen, Stine was not there. Approximately twenty minutes later and twelve blocks away, at SE Milwaukie Boulevard and SE Boise Street, a motorist found Stine's body in the roadway.

According to Traffic Investigators an unknown vehicle, westbound on Powell, had apparently struck Stine while he was lying in the roadway. The vehicle had then dragged Stine's body to SE Milwaukie and Boise where the body either came loose or the occupant(s) of the vehicle pulled it free.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony crime, and you need not give your name. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
