Detectives seek information in death investigation

November 11, 2003 00:00

On Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 740 p.m., Southeast Precinct officers discovered the body of 75-year-old Richard Lovelady after responding to a call for a "welfare check" at 5022 Southeast 78th Avenue. When officers arrived they observed that the residence appeared to have been ransacked and the home burglarized. Detectives were called to the scene and now believe a number of items, including a vehicle, described as a blue and gray colored 1999 Pontiac Montana minivan bearing Oregon license YND571 had been stolen.

The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that the deceased died of natural causes. Despite this fact, the evidence of criminal activity at the home has caused detectives to classify the victim's death as suspicious. Homicide Detectives have learned that family members last contacted the victim on November 2, 2003. Detectives are actively seeking any witnesses who may have seen the victim, observed any activity around the victim's home, or saw the vehicle since that date.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Cheryl Kanzler (503) 823-0457 or Detective Paul Weatheroy at (503) 823-0458.

This investigation is continuing.
