Portland Police Bureau gives out 1000 free firearm locks

On Wednesday November 19, 2003, all five precincts of the Portland Police Bureau will begin distribution of 1000 firearm safety locks. The firearm safety locks, provided through a grant by the US Department of Justice's Project ChildSafe, will be distributed until they are gone; distribution is limited to one per family. Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program designed to promote safe firearm handling and storage practices. Twenty million locks are being handed out nationwide. Citizens wishing to obtain a lock should visit one of our precincts between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Precinct locations are:

Central Precinct- 1111 SW 2nd Avenue North Precinct- 7214 North Philadelphia Avenue Northeast Precinct- 449 Northeast Emerson Street Southeast Precinct- 4735 East Burnside East Precinct- 737 Southeast 106th Avenue

The Portland Police Bureau cannot warrant or guarantee the firearm safety lock's durability or performance.
