Bureau Members to Present $25,000 to Local Non-Profits

December 05, 2003 00:00

On Monday, December 8, 2003, at 2 p.m., the Portland Police Special Contributions Committee (PPSCC) will distribute $25,000 to local non-profit agencies. The ceremony will be held at Southeast Precinct's Community Room, located at 4735 East Burnside Street.

This money, which is collected from more than 300 Bureau members through voluntary payroll deductions, is a longtime charitable giving campaign. The fund was established many years ago as a resource for officers and their families who were experiencing financial problems due to illness or other unforeseen expenses. As the years passed, the fund has evolved to address specific needs of the community. Members of PPSCC vote on how the funds will be distributed each year, and a small amount is still held to address the needs of Bureau members experiencing a financial emergency.

In the past 10 years, more than $325,000 has been distributed this way. The following organizations will be presented a check:

PPB EAP $5,000 Doernbecher Children's Hospital $4,375 PPB Police Memorial $3, 750 Sunshine Division $3,750 Legacy Children's Hospital $2,500 Highland Guard $1,250 Loaves & Fishes $1,250 American Cancer Society UKANDU $1,250 Camp Rosenbaum $937.50 Concerns of Police Survivors $937.50
