Crime Stoppers for the Week of January 5, 2004

January 13, 2004 00:00

The Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Investigations Unit, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for your helping in locating a vehicle reportedly involved in a road rage situation where the other vehicle involved stuck and killed a woman and a young boy who were crossing a street.

On Monday, January 5, 2004, at approximately 3:14 in the afternoon, at SE Foster Road and SE 54th Avenue, a 37-year old woman and an 8-year old boy were crossing Foster Road when they were struck and killed by a vehicle that was westbound on Foster. The vehicle, a Red Dodge Durango, was driven by a 27-year old woman who said she had been involved in some sort of road rage incident just prior to the fatal collision. According to the woman, she and the other car were both westbound on Foster. The woman was arrested and charged in connection with the death of the two pedestrians.

Investigators have learned that the Dodge Durango and another vehicle, described as "silver" and possibly a Toyota, appear to have indeed been involved in some type of road rage situation. According to the account, the Durango was stopped behind the silver car, at SE 62nd and Foster, waiting for the westbound light to change. When the light turned green the two vehicles reportedly accelerated rapidly. The Durango reportedly tried several times to pass the silver car but the silver car, which contained perhaps three people, kept making lane changes to block the Durango but the Durango did finally manage to pass the silver car. At 54th and Foster the Durango reportedly swerved to the right to pass a van that was stopped in the westbound center lane. The Durango then hit and killed the two pedestrians who were crossing the street.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to the locating of the "silver" car involved and the resolution of this case. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
