Police Cadets Conduct 4th Annual Polar Bear Jump
February 13, 2004 00:00
Portland Police Bureau Command Staff and Cadets will jump into the frigid Columbia River on Monday, February 16, 2004, at 1 p.m., to show support for the Portland Police Cadet Program. The 4th annual Polar Bear Jump features participants, who have raised money through pledges. The money will go toward the purchase of necessary equipment, such as ballistic vests, police radios and flashlights. Participants will jump into the water from the Doubletree Jantzen Beach Hotel’s boat dock, (located at 909 N. Hayden Island Drive). A river patrol boat from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Fireboat 17 from the Portland Fire Bureau and a Paramedic Unit form American Medical Response will be on hand to assist with the event.
The Portland Police Cadet Program, which is a division of the Youth Crime Prevention Unit, is a volunteer organization for young people, ages 16-21. Last year the Portland Police Cadets volunteered 25,000 hours of service to the Police Bureau and the community.
If you have any questions about this event or if you would like to make a donation, contact Sergeant George Weatheroy at the Youth Crime Prevention Unit (503) 823-2111.
