Crime Stoppers for the Week of March 1, 2004

March 01, 2004 00:00

The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, want your help in finding a missing person who is wanted on multiple criminal charges.

Gregory Askew has warrants for his arrest on charges including kidnapping, assault, and harassment. The charges stem from domestic violence reported in Columbia County. He is listed as a missing person from Tillamook County.

On February 20, 2004, a man who claimed to be Askew, told an emergency dispatcher in Tillamook County he fell into the ocean. A search by land, air, and sea, revealed a truck belonging to Askew. Authorities found the truck near a trailhead at Neahkahnie Mountain, near Manzanita, but did not find Askew. He checked out of a hotel in Cannon Beach earlier the same day.

On Tuesday, February 24, 2004, police in Hillsboro found a van belonging to Askew, at a motel where he was registered. He was last seen at the motel on the same day the call to Tillamook emergency dispatch came in.

Askew is a 40 year old, white male, approximately 5’9”, 220 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward, up to $1,000, for information that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, reported to Crime Stoppers, and you may remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP.

***Update*** Gregory Askew turned himself in.
