Crime Stoppers for the week of March 29, 2004

March 31, 2004 00:00

The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, would like your help in solving a homicide.

On March 23, 2004, at about 3:00 a.m., police were called to the intersection of N. Webster St. and N. Albina Ave., after a neighbor saw a man lying bleeding in the street. A neighbor reported hearing what sounded like one gunshot at about 2:30 a.m. When police arrived they found 35-year-old Lavelle Matthews, in the street, dead from a gunshot wound.

Detectives said Matthews had been out earlier in the evening at the Paragon Club on N. Killingsworth St., where he and many other people were socializing.

Detectives said that are often people outside late at night in the area where Matthews was killed. They believe there were people out the night he was killed.

Detectives would like to hear from anybody who may have seen Matthews at the Paragon Club, outside the club later, or anybody with any other information about this case.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony crime, and you may remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
