This is the second such mission in recent weeks with the goal of arresting those people responsible for a large number of property crimes in Southeast and East Precincts. The first mission, which was conducted on April 16, 2004, only in Southeast Precinct, netted nine arrests. There are about 30,000 warrants on file in Multnomah County. Police narrowed that number down to the 500 warrants for people in Southeast Precinct. From there they looked for known property offenders.
This effort by the two precincts is an excellent example of an attempt to reduce crime and the fear of crime and improve neighborhood livability-two of the Police Bureau’s community policing goals. Police hope targeting specific wanted people inspires other people with warrants to turn themselves in. Police are planning on conducting future missions to catch those who don’t.
