Police Arrest Robbery Suspects In East Portland

August 12, 2004 00:00

On Wednesday August 11, 2004, at about 1:20 a.m., Portland Police responded to an armed robbery at Soobies Bar, in the 300 block of SE 122nd Ave. Two black males, disguised with bandanas over their faces, robbed the bar a gunpoint and left out the door just minutes before police arrived.

A Multnomah County deputy spotted a four door Cadillac nearby and watched as two people inside the car seemed to be trying to hide from view. The deputy, assisted by Portland officers, initiated a stop of the Cadillac near NE 122/NE Oregon. As soon as the car stopped a black male got out of the front passenger door and ran. Another black male got out of the driver side rear door and ran. Police could see him dropping money as he fled. Police set up a perimeter after a brief foot chase and searched with a K9. Both men were taken into custody near the stop. They were identified as 29-year-old Gabriel J. Chiles and 29-year-old Ivory J. Watkins.

The driver of the Cadillac did not flee from the stop and was taken into custody there. She was identified as 20-year-old Jasmine L. Hill.

Chiles was arrested for Robbery I, Watkins was arrested for Robbery I and a warrant for PCS II failure to appear. Hill was arrested on a Theft II failure to appear warrant. All three were booked into the Multnomah County jail.

This investigation is ongoing.

Photos of the suspects are attached.
