Detectives investigate homicide of 19-year-old man

August 28, 2004 00:00

On August 27, 2004, at 10:57 p.m., Portland Police responded to a "shots fired" call in the area of North Borthwick Avenue and North Failing Street. Officers arrived and found evidence that a shooting had occurred but did not locate a victim. A short time later, 19-year-old Kehinde Jahmal Payton arrived at Emanuel Hospital by private vehicle. Payton appeared to have been shot and died while receiving treatment. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and have initiated an investigation. An autopsy determined that Payton died from a gunshot wound. Detectives have located several witnesses and are continuing to seek information from anyone who may be able to assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jon Rhodes at (503) 823-0459 or Detective Lynn Courtney at (503) 823-0451. This investigation is continuing.
