5 ARRESTED IN DOWNTOWN “WILDING”

October 13, 2004 00:00

On Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at about 3:00 am, Portland Police arrested 16-year-old Anthony Mondrut, 19-year-old Victor Bradley, 18-year-old Robert Irizarry, 18-year-old Pierre Bass, and 20-year-old Michael Palmer on five counts of Robbery in the First Degree and one count of Robbery in the Second Degree in connection with a series of robberies and assaults that occurred in Downtown Portland throughout the evening Monday, October 11, 2004, and into the morning of Tuesday October 12, 2004. The investigation began when Central Precinct officers began to receive a series of emergency calls on assaults and robberies in the Downtown Area. Officers tracked the suspects and arrested all five as they traveled Eastbound across the Burnside Bridge.

Detectives believe that the suspects, wearing masks and armed with chains and knives, assaulted and robbed numerous victims from late Monday evening to early Tuesday Morning. At least six victims have been found and detectives have evidence indicating that there are several more victims that have not reported the crimes. The victims, chosen largely from the transient community, were severely beaten, stabbed numerous times, or in two cases, forced to jump into the Willamette River. Most of the victims were also robbed of their property. It appears the suspects victimized every person they encountered as they walked through Downtown Portland. The suspects were living in a transient camp on the East Side of the Willamette River and were walking back to the camp when the officers surrounded and arrested them.

Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call the Detective Division Robbery Detail at (503) 823-0400.

This investigation is continuing.
