On Monday, October 18, 2004, Chief Foxworth will distribute a new brochure titled “Motorized Scooters and the Law” at the regularly scheduled Chief’s Forum meeting. The meeting starts at 9:00 in the 14th floor conference room of the Justice Center, 1111 SW 2nd Ave. The brochure details the laws and guidelines for scooter riders and parents.East Precinct Officer Fred Wiechmann recognized a need to provide riders and parents with information on the laws and safety procedures for scooters and worked with the Planning and Support Division to produce an easy to read brochure. The pocket sized, tri-fold includes information on what is a motorized scooter, the age and equipment requirements, and the rules to follow.
Chief Foxworth says, “This brochure will help educate scooter riders and parents about the laws pertaining to motorized scooters. I want to remind everyone to keep scooter safety in mind, especially as we near gift giving season with scooters as popular gift item.”
The brochures will be available at all five precincts, Traffic Division and School Police Division. It will also be available online.
