INVESTIGATORS SEARCH FOR WITNESSES IN FATAL COLLISION

On Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at 9:19 am, Traffic Investigators responded to a fatal collision on I-205 Southbound near the Northeast Columbia Boulevard exit. Investigators believe the collision occurred when a Green Cab Transportation van operated by 36-year-old Sergey Anikin of Portland collided with a Volkswagen Jetta operated by 28-year-old Melisa Kirkpatrick of Vancouver, Washington. After the collision, the van struck the west side Jersey Barrier and then flipped on its side. One of the passengers died of injuries sustained when the van flipped on its side. The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Delores Nikodinov. 24-year-old Angela Nikodinov, 56-year-old Nick Nikodinov, and 34-year-old Igor Pashkavich were also in the cab at the time of the collision. They were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators have determined there is no evidence that either driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision and no one in the van was wearing a seat belt. During the initial investigation, there was information that the cab may have lost a tire when it made impact with the Jersey Barrier. This information has now proven to be false.

Investigators continue to look for witnesses who may have seen any portion of the collision Anyone with information is asked to call the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division at (503) 823-2103.

This investigation is continuing.
