On Sunday, February 6, 2005, at 1:57 p.m., 44-year-old Paul M. Guenthner contacted officers at Southeast Precinct and had a conversation that led officers to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the 3900 block of Southeast 28th Place. During the welfare check officers found the body of 47-year-old Diane Marie McGrail. Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and initiated an investigation. During the subsequent investigation detectives arrested Guenthner on one count of Murder and booked him into the Justice Center Jail.
Investigators have determined that both Guenthner and McGrail lived at the residence. Guenthner referred to the victim as his sister but detectives have not determined if the suspect and victim are actually related.
On Monday, February 07, 2005, the Medical Examiner determined that McGrail died of Manual Strangulation.
Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call Detective Jon Rhodes at (503) 823-0459 or Detective Lynn Courtney (503) 823-0597.
