On Friday, February 25, 2005, Portland Police arrested 23-year-old Antonio Negrete Jr. on six counts of Compelling Prostitution and six counts of Attempted Sodomy in the Third Degree after receiving information that he was attempting to pay children for sexual activity. The investigation began several weeks ago when officers from the School Police Division received information that a suspect was driving in the area of Portland’s school attempting to pay children to engage in sexual activity. Officers broadcast a suspect alert and on February 25, 2005, received information from a Roosevelt High School student that the same suspect had just approached him near the school. The victim provided police with a description of the suspect and his car, which allowed police to quickly arrest the suspect.
Each year as the weather permits children and young adults to congregate outside near schools and parks, the Portland Police Bureau sees an increase in both arrests and complaints of predatory sexual behavior by adults. Parents and guardians are asked to talk to their children about the need to be vigilant, walk in pairs, and report suspicious behavior.
Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call the Portland Police Bureau School Police Division at (503) 823-2166.
