On Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 8:00 p.m., members of the Portland Police Bureau’s Tactical Operations Division executed two search warrants in the 15900 block of East Burnside in connection with the February 27, 2005, shooting of Ladarius Davis. Officers arrested 31-year-old Michael Dee Collins on one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, 22-year-old Monique Roshell Crane on one count of Hindering Prosecution, and 23-year-old Alan Jerome Bates on one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Assault in the First Degree, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Officers also seized a handgun with a high capacity magazine and seven grams of crack cocaine. All three suspects were booked into the Justice Center Jail.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an earlier dispute between Bates and the victim. The shooting is described as gang related because Bates is a documented Crips member, however, there is no evidence that the victim is involved in gang activity. Investigators credit community cooperation as instrumental in solving this crime.
Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call the Tactical Operations Division Gang Enforcement Team at (503) 823-4106.
