On Saturday, March 12, 2005, at 8:00 am, Portland Police officers will join coaches and players from the Jefferson High School Junior Varsity baseball team in an effort to rebuild the school’s baseball field. Their goal is to have a working baseball field by the end of the day.
The Portland Police Association (PPA) became interested in this project when they learned that Jefferson High School hasn’t fielded a baseball team for a few years.
PPA members have donated $2,500 to be used toward the renovation, but are asking the community and local businesses to help as well. A Portland Area business has offered to donate the bats needed for the team to practice and play ball. Jefferson High School is also seeking the donation of additional baseball equipment and a riding lawnmower to maintain the field.
The field is on the South side of Jefferson High School located at 5210 North Kerby Avenue.
