Police To Help Give Away Bikes

June 10, 2005 00:00

Monday June 13, 2005 at about 2:00 p.m. Portland Police officers, will present 38 bicycles and helmets to students at Boise-Eliot elementary school, 620 North Fremont. The bikes were collected by community member David Yandell who worked with an officer and school staff to coordinate this event. Mr. Yandell works for Radio Cab. School principal James Brannon will assist with the distribution.

A similar event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Clarendon elementary school, 9325 North Van Houten, where Portland fire fighters will distribute bikes.

These bike giveaways were organized by Mr. Yandell who sees this as a positive cooperation between private citizens, police, fire, and school personnel to do something for children.

Media are welcome to attend. Participants will be available to answer reporters questions after the event.
