Detectives Arrest Suspect In 2004 Homicide

July 19, 2005 00:00

On July 19, 2005 at about 9:00 a.m. Portland Police homicide detectives arrested 63-year-old Harold Winford Hunt and booked him into jail on one count of Murder. Detectives arrested Hunt in connection with the April 7, 2004 murder of 30-year-old Edward Obiang who was found stabbed to death at about 12:30 that morning under the east side of the Broadway Bridge.

Detectives developed suspect information in the case which included a description and first name. That information was shared with other law enforcement officers in the area and ultimately led detectives to Hunt. Members of the East County Major Crimes Team made significant contributions to this investigation by finding the place where Hunt, a transient, had been staying in an area near Troutdale known as 1000 Acres. There was an increased police presence recently at 1000 Arces following an unrelated homicide there.

Portland detectives obtained a warrant to search the campsite where Hunt was arrested and collected evidence. Hunt was alone at the time of his arrest. Detectives interviewed him and booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Detective Barry Renna (503-823-0255) or Detective Mike Geiger (503-823-0768).
