Police Increase Presence Downtown Tonight

July 29, 2005 00:00

On July 29, 2005 in an effort to increase the visibility of police downtown this weekend the Portland Police will park one of its mobile community policing vehicles in a parking lot near SW 3rd and SW Washington from 8:00 p.m. until after closing time for area businesses in the early morning on Saturday. Community members will notice officers on foot in this area as well, interacting with people who are out enjoying the downtown nightlife. The mobile community policing vehicle is about 38 feet long and can be seen for blocks. Police hope the increased visibility will prevent crime and provide members of the community with an increased sense of security as they enjoy downtown Portland this weekend. The mobile community policing vehicle will likely be parked downtown again tomorrow night.
