THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED ON GUN CHARGES IN CONNECTION WITH EARLY MORNING SHOOTING

On Monday, August 8, 2005, at 1:19 am, Portland Police received a "shots fired" call in the area of Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Oak Street. Officers, who were in the area and heard the shots, located a 28-year-old black male who had collapsed on the ground in the 200 block of Southwest Washington. An ambulance was called to the scene and the victim died as he was receiving medical attention. A short time later, a 17-year-old shooting victim walked into Emanuel Hospital with a non-life-threatening leg wound.

As officers responded to the scene, they saw a van operating without its lights leaving the area at a high rate of speed. After a short pursuit across the Broadway Bridge, the three occupants of the car, later identified as 27-year-old Deandros Brown, 25-year-old Corey Hudson, and 32-year-old Lorenzo Jones, were taken into custody. Officers also recovered two handguns. All three suspects have been charged with two counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Jones has also been charged with one count of Attempt to Elude a Police Officer. At this time, no one has been charged in connection with the murder.

An autopsy has determined that the deceased victim died of a gunshot wound. The location of the wound on the victim’s body is being withheld for investigative reasons.

Investigators spent more than ten hours processing the four-block crime scene. Based on the evidence seized at the scene, detectives believe the suspect or suspects fired at least 40 rounds during the course of shooting.

Anyone with information in investigation is asked to call Detective Jon Rhodes at (503) 823-0459 or Detective Lynn Courtney at (503) 823-0451. This investigation is continuing.
