Detectives Investigate Possible Bias Crime

August 19, 2005 00:00

On Thursday, August 18, 2005, at 12:25 AM, East Precinct officers responded to a stabbing in the 1500 block of Northeast 109th Avenue. Officers arrived and discovered an unconscious 25-year-old African American who had suffered apparent stab wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was immediately taken into surgery.

When the victim had regained consciousness, he told investigators that he was walking in the area of Northeast 109th Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street when he was confronted by four white males. The suspects reportedly shouted racial epitaphs at the victim and during a physical confrontation the victim was stabbed at least once. The suspects are described as four white males in there mid-twenties. All four suspects were wearing jeans and T-shirts. The suspects fled the area Eastbound on Northeast Halsey in a maroon-colored, 4-door Honda Accord with stock wheels and a loud muffler.

Detectives are investigating this as a bias crime and for investigative reasons detectives are not releasing the name of the victim.

Anyone with information in this investigation is asked to call Detective Jim McCausland at (503) 823-0871.

This investigation is continuing.
