On Sunday, August 21, 2005, at 3:56 a.m., Portland Police contacted 41-year-old Jeffrey William Smith near the intersection of Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Stark Street on an assault call. Once at the scene, officers learned that Smith had been assaulted by an unknown suspect or suspects. Smith, who was conscious and alert, was transported to a hospital. During the week, Smith’s condition continued to deteriorate and on Thursday, August 25, 2005, he died.
An autopsy has determined that Smith died from Blunt Force Assault and his death was ruled a homicide.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 20’s. He is 5’10, with a stocky, muscular build. The suspect’s hair was described as bald with several weeks’ growth. The suspect was also in the company of two white males, one described as being obese. Detectives are also attempting to identify and locate these potential witnesses.
