23 Graduate from Citizens Academy

December 14, 2005 00:00

On Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at 8:00 p.m., in the Training Division conference room on the 11th floor of the Justice Center, Chief Derrick Foxworth will give diplomas to the 23 graduates of the 2005 Police Bureau Citizens Academy. The Citizens Academy is a 9-week training opportunity in which members from the community participate in more than 30 hours of both “hand’s on” and classroom training. Classes include patrol tactics, weapons systems, criminal investigations, and methods of Community Policing. This training is designed to educate community members about the Portland Police Bureau and improve the partnership between citizens and the community we serve.

“The Citizens Academy is a great example of Community Policing at it’s finest. It gives citizens an opportunity to develop personal relationships with officers and experience firsthand what our officers do every day.” said Chief Foxworth. “Citizens who attend the academy leave with a greater understanding and appreciation of the challenges officers’ face on a daily basis and, hopefully, these citizens will become the partners we need to improve the Police Bureau in the future.”
