On Saturday, December 17, 2005, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at East Portland Community Center, located at 740 SE 106th Avenue, the Portland Police Bureau, Project Safe Neighborhoods, and the East Portland Neighborhood Office will participate in a gun safety fair. Citizens attending the fair will be given free gun safety locks, and can learn tips on safe firearms handling and storage and information on how to keep your family safe from gun violence.
Chief Derrick Foxworth said, “Using gunlocks can save someone’s life. I encourage everyone to take that extra measure of prevention to help protect your family when you are not around. Gunlocks are a common sense tool for families who own guns.”
Citizens will also have the opportunity to meet Portland Police Bureau Cadets, as well as representatives from Portland Fire and Rescue, Office of Neighborhood Involvement, and Portland Department of Transportation.
For more information on the gun locks program or if you would like tips on how to talk to your children about gun safety, please visit the Project Safe Neighborhood website at www.EASTPORTLANDCAT.ORG or call 503-823-5531.
