On Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at 10:35 p.m, Portland Police responded to a reported shooting in the parking lot of Carl’s Jr. Restaurant, located at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Powell Boulevard. Officers arrived and found the body of 17-year-old Jonny Phommachan.
The victim and a group of friends were standing at a bus stop on Southeast Powell Boulevard just east of Southeast 82nd Avenue when a group of three black males confronted them. After a physical fight between the two groups ensued, one of the three black males pulled out a gun and shot Phommmachan once in the chest. Phommachan ran into Carl’s Jr, where he collapsed and died.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 17-19 years of age, 5’7 to 5’8 with a thin to medium build. He was wearing a red baseball cap, black jacket with a red shirt underneath, and was armed with a gun.
