The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Anthony Utah-Zona Beck. The Medical Examiner determined that Beck died of gunshot wounds. According to the Medical Examiner, Beck also had numerous self-inflicted knife wounds on his body. The Southeast Precinct officer involved is Chris Kenagy, a 3-year veteran of the Portland Police Bureau. Officer Kenagy fired a total of 3 rounds at Beck after Beck pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers and citizens. All 3 rounds struck Beck. Detectives have learned that Beck’s weapon was an air pistol that was a replica of a handgun.

Throughout the investigation, officers believed there may have been a second burglary suspect in the residence with Beck. Investigators have spent today processing the crime scene. There is still no definitive evidence that there was a second suspect in the home.

The FBI has also identified Beck as a suspect in several recent bank robberies in the Portland Metropolitan Area. A photograph of Beck is available via e-mail from the Portland Police Bureau Identification Division at (503) 823-0382

The investigation is continuing, once completed it will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective John Brooks at (503) 823-0757.
