On Friday, February 1, 2002, four suspects were indicted on multiple counts of Robbery in the First Degree and Robbery in the Second Degree by a Multnomah County Grand Jury. Robbery Detectives believe the suspects, 43-year-old John Gregg Walter, 50-year-old John Whiley, 38-year-old Desiree Lamorte, and 46-year-old Darryel Glenn Lee are responsible for 10 Portland area tavern robberies between October 22 and November 26, 2001. All four suspects are currently in the Multnomah County Jail.

In each of the first eight armed robberies, Detectives believe that Whiley, who worked as a taxi driver, and Walter’s girlfriend Lamorte walked through a tavern and provided Walter with the tavern floor plan along with information about the number of patrons and employees. Walter would then enter the tavern and commit an armed robbery. After the robbery, Walter would exit the tavern and lie down in the back of the Whiley’s taxicab as Whiley and Lamorte drove out of the area.

After Walter was taken into custody, Detectives believe Whiley, Lamorte, and Lee used the same method and handgun to commit two additional tavern robberies.

Photographs of all four suspects are available via e-mail from the Portland Police Bureau Identification Division by calling (503) 823-0382.
