Police Bureau Begins 10 Days of Enhanced Patrols

March 24, 2006 00:00

Tonight begins a ten-day enhanced patrol mission designed to provide a positive and safe environment for juveniles during spring break and improve neighborhood livability by minimizing juvenile-related crime. During the mission, the Police Bureau's five precincts, School Police Division, Drugs and Vice Division, Traffic Division, and the Transit Police Division will participate in curfew missions, alcohol-related missions, transit area enhanced patrol missions, and traffic missions.

Officers will concentrate on areas where juveniles consistently congregate or where there have been on-going problems with speed racing, vandalism, and property crime. Curfew hours will be 10:15 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for youth under 14 years of age and midnight to 6:00 a.m. for juveniles 14 years old and over.

The Police Bureau wishes to remind parents that several organizations including Portland's Parks and Recreation, Youth Gang Outreach, Police Activities League, and the Boys and Girls Clubs offer safe alternatives four youth during Spring Break.

For more information on Police Activities League programs please call (503) 823-0250, or (505) 256-3479. The Portland School Police Division can also be reached at (503) 823-2166.
