Summer Youth Connect

Portland’s youth get a jump start on a career and your business can get a $500 tax credit.

Help us invest in a future that will pay dividends to all Portlanders — and your bottom line:

Hire a Portland youth this summer. And for a limited time, we'll invest with you.

When youth graduate with valuable career skills, they’re one step closer to becoming responsible, productive members of our community. And that’s good for all of us. So we're offering $500 tax credits to qualifying businesses that either employ youth or help them learn the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.

So if your company is registered to do business in the State of Oregon and pays a City of Portland Business License Tax-- and you can offer an opportunity for youth to learn and hone the skills that will smoothly transition them from school onto a career pathway -- contact us to get the ball rolling.

The complete details are below, but don’t wait. There are a limited number of Youth Career Readiness and Foster Youth Employment credits available, and summer’s coming fast.

The Youth Career Readiness Tax Credit

Offer:

  • $500 non-refundable tax credit on
  • your Portland business license tax

To qualify your company must:

  • be registered to do business in the State of Oregon
  • pay a City of Portland Business License Tax
  • provide career awareness, exploration or preparation activities for youth
at a direct cost to the business of $2500 or in-kind value of more than $5000

The goal of this innovative program is to increase the number of students who graduate from high school career-ready, putting them on a path to success and productivity. To encourage that, we award tax credits to businesses that offer opportunities in three (3) major career-enhancing areas:

  1. for youth to apply classroom learning in the workplace
  2. to learn and fine tune employability skills (for example, critical thinking or responsibility)
  3. to gain technical, job-specific skills related to a career pathway

For a business to qualify for the Youth Career Readiness Tax Credit, the activity you provide must meet at least one of these three criteria and have a direct cost to the business of $2500 or in-kind value of more than $5000. To learn if the activity you have in mind qualifies in one of these categories, just give us a call.

The Foster Youth Employment Tax Credit
