Siltronic Corporation

About

logoSiltronic is a global leader in the market for hyperpure silicon wafers and a partner to many top-tier chip manufacturers. Silicon wafers form the basis of the modern micro and nanoelectronics. They are used in computers, smartphones, flat-panel displays, navigation systems, automotive engine control systems and many other applications. Wacker Chemie AG’s semiconductor division operates production facilities in Europe, Asia and the USA. The Portland facility produces 200 mm diameter wafers.

Achievements

Silver Certification

  • Siltronic is ISO 14001 certified and is committed to continuously improving its environmental practices. An example of this commitment is Siltronic’s successful recycling of 89% of its solid waste in 2011.
  • There are a number of energy conservation programs that Siltronic has developed to reduce greenhouse gases. Some include, installation of variable frequency drives, high efficiency lighting upgrades, installation of heat recovery systems, and fine tuning HVAC systems. These programs have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 26% since 2003.
  • Siltronic’s employee commute program features subsidized bus passes, encouragement of alternative commute options such as carpooling and bicycling, and scheduling of shifts that require less commute time. These programs reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 600 metric tons of CO2e per year.

  • For a number of years Siltronic has also actively developed and implemented water conservation and reuse programs. These programs have reduced water consumption per manufactured wafer by 35% since 1996.
