Safety is the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s No. 1 priority. Every life altering injury or death caused by traffic crashes is a tragedy that resonates through our families and neighborhoods. We’re constantly working to improve safety throughout the city by reducing speeding, making crossings safer, creating partnerships with police and working with the community.
We promote safety through engineering, education and enforcement -- and we believe that everyone can help. By slowing down, being sober when we travel, and following the rules of the road, we can make Portland safer. During the winter months, when it gets darker earlier, it’s especially important for everyone to be extra aware, whether you’re driving a car, riding a bike or walking.

High Crash Corridors (HCCs) are extended areas of roadway that have exceptional concentrations of crash activity. Identifying HCCs helps the City target limited resources for improved safety.
