Portland By Cycle

Transportation Options offers the Portland By Cycle campaign annually in conjunction with our Target Area program , to encourage new and existing bicycle riders to ride a bicycle more often and for new kinds of trips.  We promote bicycling both for transportation and for the health benefits of a more active lifestyle.

For folks living in the NE Hub area, the centerpiece of the campaign was the bike kit.  To those who ordered the kit we delivered a package of Portland bike maps, rides and events schedules, the Portland By Cycle Guide with all the info one needs to get riding, a coupon book for local businesses with over $100 in savings, a reflective leg band, and more. The kit was designed to provide all the information residents and employees in the Northeast Hub would need to get around Portland by bike.

This year's campaign also included several programs. Our long-running Summer Cycle, back by popular demand for 2006, offered a series of casual 8-10 mile bike rides around Portland’s eastside. The Women on Bikes outreach program aimed to increase the number of female bike riders through a series of clinics and rides geared specifically for women. The series of Smart Living Classes offered several classes geared specifically to those interested in cycling. The Portland By Cycle campaign also included distribution of kids’ bike helmets and bike lights to Target Area residents in need.

Check out our latest publication, new for 2006:Portland By Cycle: A Guide to Your Ride.  It has lots of information to help make your ride safe, comfortable, & thoroughly enjoyable.  You can view it online or order a paper copy to bring along.  Click here for more details.
