Circuit Court announces changes to parking fine schedule
(Portland,Ore.) – Effective on January 2, 2012, the Circuit Court will implement a five dollar increase in fines for overtime parking violations, truck loading zone violations and failure to display current vehicle registration. These changes reflect the Circuit Court’s collaboration with the City of Portland to ensure that the fine schedule for all parking violations is in line with comparable cities in the United States.
The standard overtime parking fine will remain at $34 through the holidays and on January 2, 2012, will be increased to $39. The average for cities comparable to Portland is $40.11.[1]
Also effective on January 2, 2012, failure to display current vehicle registration will have a variable fine schedule. For noncompliance up to three months, the fine will be $65. For noncompliance three months or longer, the fine will be $140. This change responds to the City Auditor’s recommendation in the 2009 Clean Air Audit.
The Circuit Court and the City of Portland advise citizens to take a moment after parking to read the signs, display their permits and parking receipts properly, and ensure their vehicle is legally parked and current registration is properly displayed. The Circuit Court maintains discretion in adjusting fine amounts for individual violations.
