The elevator for the Hooley Pedestrian Bridge will be closed for up to two weeks beginning Tuesday, September 25, while a work crew make a modification. The work is part of the approval process for a new elevator.
Once complete, the elevator will be considered for final approval by the state elevator inspector.
Signs on the bridge and elevator entrances let users know that the elevator is currently closed and the stairway is open. A detour to neighboring underpasses of Interstate 5 is possible.
The Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge opened in July and was renamed the “US Congresswoman Darlene Hooley Pedestrian Bridge at Gibbs Street” by Mayor Sam Adams in a ceremony.
The bridge lands on the west side near the intersection of SW Gibbs Street and SW Kelly Avenue and on the east side near the intersection of SW Gibbs StreetandSW Moody Avenue. It reconnects the South Waterfront and Lair Hill neighborhoods.
