Traffic Advisory: Street paving and striping to close lanes on SW Barbur Blvd on Oct. 8-17

TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Street paving and striping to close lanes on SW Barbur Blvd on October 8-17

Permanent lane changes provide important bike lane connections

PORTLAND, Ore. – The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that lane closures will be necessary on Southwest Barbur Boulevard between Southwest Sheridan Street and Southwest Viewpoint Terrace beginning Monday, October 8, through Wednesday, October 17, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each week day. The closures are necessary to remove the existing pavement and repave and stripe the street.

The public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Local access to residences and businesses will be provided.

In addition to paving the street, permanent new striping will change the lane configurations on SW Barbur Blvd, SW Sheridan St and SW Fifth Ave. SW Fifth Ave and SW Sheridan St will have three travel lanes plus one buffered bike lane that provides an important connection for bicyclists from Downtown Portland to SW Barbur Blvd. The lane changes also create an opportunity for buffered bike lanes on Barbur and a wider sidewalk on the east side of Barbur in the future. See before and after drawings of the lane configurations.

This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change.
