The Transportation Bureau is developing a pilot project to modernize NE Multnomah Street by creating a “main street” for the Lloyd District, which balances the needs of shoppers, future residents and multi-modal transportation users. The result is anticipated to rebalance and re-energize the Lloyd District and create a vibrant east-west retail spine.

Tranpsportation crews have already started prepping the street for the striping updates. Expect to see crews continuing work in the next few weeks.

The project considers the land-use and transportation changes that will transform the district in the coming years. Specifically, the Lloyd District is now home to the Portland Streetcar Loop, and seeing bikeway development, the N/NE Quadrant Plan, and the proposal for a 780-unit mixed use development in its future.

The pilot project has boundaries that include NE Multnomah from NE 16th Avenue to NE Wheeler and NE Holladay Street from NE 9^th Avenue to NE Wheeler.
