The Portland Bureau of Transportation closed Northwest Cornell Road today around noon due to a small landslide. Traffic on Cornell Road is being detoured to Northwest Thompson Road and Northwest 53rd Drive. The road is expected to reopen tomorrow.

The public is advised to use alternate routes to avoid slowing caused by the closure and detour. Other crossing of the West Hills include West Burnside Road, U.S. 26 (Sunset Highway) and Northwest Germantown Road.

Maintenance crews from the Transportation Bureau were on the scene this afternoon working to clear the road of the small landslide and manage trees caught in power lines. The bureau stated it expected Cornell Road to reopen on Friday at the earliest and that it would update the public as the situation developed. Crews do not work on landslides at night due to safety risks.

To report landslides, downed trees or flooding, call the Transportation Bureau’s 24/7 dispatch line at 503-823-1700. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
