A fun and challenging volunteer position in Portland’s premier community event
Overview
Portland Sunday Parkways seeks energetic and qualified volunteers to assist the Sunday Parkways (SP) staff in coordinating five SP events.
Each SP event coordinates activities at five to six parks. These parks hold activities, games and entertainment. A marketplace adjacent to the park hosts food vendors and exhibitors. The Park and Marketplace Coordinators (PMC) help the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) Park Leader in coordinating park set up, guiding vendors to their spots and getting the whole event set up. After set up is complete, the PMCs will act at the PBOT Park Leader’s right hand person to help manage issues that come up in the Parks, greet and orient Information Booth volunteers for the first and second shifts, and work at the Information Booth.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide confident assistance to PBOT Park Leaders
- Coordinate Park Set Up volunteers in their tasks
- Welcome and guide vendors to their assigned spots
- Help set up park and the Information Booth
- Work the rest of the morning shift at the Information Booth
Skills and Qualifications
- Volunteered for Portland Sunday Parkways at three or more events, preferably as an Info Booth Superstar
- Experience leading volunteers
- Ability to communicate assertively and positively with vendors and participants
- Ability to make confident decisions in pressured situations
- Friendly, patient and energetic personality

Position Details:
Length of Commitment: 2 or more Sunday Parkways events in 2013. Shifts start at 9:00 am and end at 1:30 pm
Training: A single training session prior to the season and then a route overview before each event. Date to be determined

- May 12th – East
- June 23rd – Northeast
- July 28th – North
- August 25th – Southeast
- September 29th –Southwest
