Summer Bike Count

Each summer the Bureau of Transportation enlists dozens of volunteers to manually count bicycle traffic at more than 220 sites across the city. The data collected - including bike turn movements, rider gender, and helmet use - contributes to a robust set of data helping to grow and improve Portland's bicycle network.

Counts occur June through September on good weather days (no rain or extreme heat) mid-week (Tues-Wed-Thurs). Each site only needs to be counted one time during the summer.

The 2014 Bike Count is over :(

Thank you to all of the awesome volunteers who helped gather copious amounts of data! Check back next year for information on Bike Count 2015...

**NEW to the 2014 Count**

In partnership with Portland's NW Skate Coalition, PBOT has added a skateboard tally to the annual bike count. Volunteers are asked to include a tally of any skateboarders travelling through your assigned intersection during your two hour bike count. You do not need to track gender, helmet use, or direction of travel for skateboarders. The skateboard tally can go anywhere on your bike count form, but please keep this separate from the bike tallies.

If you have any questions about this please contact taylor.suttion@portlandoregon.gov, 503-823-4533.
