Taxi and TNC Passenger Information

  • You can hail any taxi you see on the street. But to request a ride from Lyft, Wingz, Uber, and other TNCs, you must first download a smart phone application. This will require your email address, and credit or debit card information. TNC rides must be requested through the app.
  • How much will it cost? TNCs disclose their rates in the app. A clear and complete summary of a taxi company’s rate schedule must be posted visible in the passenger compartment of every taxicab.

  • Can fares change?  Taxi rates can vary by company. Any proposed rate changes must be submitted to the City of Portland. Taxi rates are posted and non-negotiable. TNC rates can increase during peak periods, such as weekend nights.

  • What if I need a wheelchair accessible vehicle? Taxis and TNCs must provide equitable service to persons with disabilities. That means the wait time and the fares for wheelchair accessible service and non-wheelchair accessible service must be the same. Service animals must also be reasonably accommodated by drivers.
  • What if something goes wrong? To report an emergency or a crime, call 911. To report driver misconduct such as dangerous driving or failure to adhere to rates posted, provide details to 503-82-DRIVE  (503-823-2483) or email or use the website complaint form.
