The City has a number of programs devoted to making Portland's streets and sidewalks more accessible. The Bureau of Maintenance installs new curb ramps as part of routine maintenance and also focuses on arterial streets, transit streets and accessibility for seniors and school children. Private contractors also install ramps as part of street improvement permits.
The ADA Curb Ramp Request Program identifies and builds curb ramps throughout the city by request of citizens. We work with the Metropolitan Human Rights Center to evaluate and select locations to construct approximately 100 ramps each year.
