City bureaus have a target of recovering (recycling and composting) 85% of waste generated from internal operations. The Water Bureau's recovery rate was 69% in Fiscal Year 2012-2013 across bureau facilities and public hydroparks. This rate does not include recycling or composting at the Portland Building which is tracked separately by the City's Bureau of Internal Business Services. The bureau also generated 383,149 pounds of garbage in FY 2012-2013, a 35% increase compared to FY 2011-2012. The Interstate facility generated 96% of bureau garbage. Sustainability and Green Team staff continue to train employees on waste reduction and recycling at bureau facilities.
