Southwest Portland water, sewer project completed
The Portland Water Bureau recently completed the city’s Portland Heights Pump Mains project that installed approximately 3,500 feet of new 16-inch diameter ductile iron water main in SW Greenway Avenue and SW Montgomery Drive. This new water mains replaced an existing aging 12-inch diameter steel main as some sections of the old pipeline had been in the ground since 1904.
This project also included work for the Bureau of Environmental Services to replace several sections of aging sewer lines. The completed project significantly increases the reliability and versatility of Portland’s water and sewer systems.
The project was challenging to residents due to narrow streets, lack of sidewalks, noise and the amount of commuter traffic that had to pass through the work zone.
