Starting the week of October 8, 2012, a contractor for the Portland Water Bureau will be installing two new manhole structures and water and sewer pipelines in the intersection of NW Skyline Boulevard and NW Hawkins Boulevard.
This work will require that traffic be channeled into one lane around the work zone. To accommodate rush hour traffic, the lane closure will only be from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Flaggers will safely direct traffic past the work zone. All traffic lanes will be open when no work is underway. Motorists and bicyclists are encouraged to find alternate routes to avoid possible delays.
This phase of street work will be completed in about four to five weeks. Future intermittent lane closures will occur through to summer 2013. Electronic message signs will provide advanced notice of the dates.
The street work is part of the bureau’s Forest Park Low Tank Project, which will add a new 1.3 million gallon underground reservoir to the area’s water system. This additional storage capacity will allow the Portland Water Bureau to better serve the current and future water needs of residents living at higher elevations in the Northwest Hills district. It will also help to improve water capacity for emergency fire protection.
