Two water main breaks have occurred this afternoon in Southwest and North Portland. Portland Water Bureau (PWB) repair crews are at the site of both incidents.

The rupture of an 8-inch diameter cast iron pipe near the intersection of West Burnside Street at Southwest Barnes Road is affecting the east bound travel lane.  PWB crews are removing material and water, and will determine if they can wait to repair the pipe after the rush hour traffic commute.  Both east and west bound lanes may be closed tonight for this work. Traffic will be flagged through the work zone.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

The second main break – another 8-inch diameter cast iron pipe -- is near the 8900 block of North Fortune Avenue at North Hudson Street. The main break is in a residential area and will not affect commuter traffic. It is unknown at this time how many residents are without water.
