Two water main breaks that occurred this afternoon in Southwest and North Portland require only minor repairs. The repair work for one pipe break will wait until after this evening’s commute rush hour.

The repair of a leaky 8-inch diameter steel pipe near the intersection of West Burnside Street at Southwest Barnes Road may cause night-time traffic delays. Crews are currently managing the leak so as not to disrupt traffic until after 6:00 PM.

At that time, the westbound lane of West Burnside Street will be closed. Traffic will be diverted into the eastbound lane and will be managed by flaggers and cones.  The repair work will take up to five hours to complete. 

The second main break near the 8900 block of North Fortune Avenue at North Hudson Street has been repaired and water service has returned to normal.
