On July 26th, Emery & Sons Construction, Inc. completed a full-roof pour in less than three hours, capping the 1.3 million-gallon concrete Forest Park Low Tank Reservoir. The new reservoir is part of an overall plan to increase water supply especially for fire protection in the Northwest Portland Hills.
On Monday, August 12th, equipment was mobilized at the construction site located at NW Skyline Boulevard and NW Hawkins Boulevard and crews began preparing the concrete tank to be reinforced with a tensioned wrap of steel cable.
Starting today, Friday, August 16th and continuing on Monday, August 19th, more than 10 miles of cable will be used to wrap the reservoir. The cable will then be covered with several layers of sprayed-on concrete applied through a hose at high velocity.
The steel cable wrapping will serve as a multi-layered encasing that adds support and reinforces the reservoir’s walls. Wrapping will be one of the last parts of the tank construction process. The next steps include backfilling the reservoir, water testing and building the adjacent pump station. The project is on-track for completion in March 2014.
During the cable wrapping process, the public is reminded this is a construction zone and to please avoid the site.
